When so many churches have started to embrace social media, it can be difficult to stand out from other ministries online. While you may understand what makes your church unique from all others in your community, it can sometimes be challenging to translate that into social posts.

Why Is It Important To Be Unique?

Aren’t we all on the same team of the Church anyway? While this is true, I think it’s important to acknowledge that God has called all of us collectively, but He has also called each of us individually. Your specific church has a place and a calling that no other organization could fill. For these reasons, I believe there is great value in having your social posts look like they are from your church.

When a social post looks like your church, people will read it in your ministry’s voice. The more quality content that you publish that has this look, the more you can build a good reputation online. This pays off most when your audience stops scrolling when they see something in their feed that looks like it’s from your account.

Helpful Resources

Let’s be honest. Not every church has dedicated designers that can create custom content for Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. Even churches that do have people committed to these tasks can have trouble finding the time to create posts over and over each day. This makes me so thankful that several church media producers have started releasing social media graphics. These products make it easier for ministries to post online even when they don’t have the manpower. There are different options available around the internet, but the examples that I’ll be showing you today are from our partner, Church Motion Graphics. What I love about CMG’s social graphics is that they are ready-to-use for those churches that don’t have designers or just need a quick post in a pinch. But, when you’re ready for a custom look, they are fully editable in Adobe Photoshop. You can get creative with these images and change everything from text to photos to fonts to colors and so on.

Try these tips to make your graphics more unique to your specific church:

1. Include Your Church’s Logo

I have long been an advocate for including your church’s logo on everything that you put online. For one, it immediately identifies that a post is from your church no matter how it’s shared or reposted. It also creates brand recognition as people in your community see those posts on their social feeds. I love that you can accomplish this even without Photoshop with tools like Canva or CMG Editor. Even if it’s subtle, try to include your logo or church name in some way.

2. Follow A Specific Color Palette

One of the best ways to immediately let your audience know that a post is coming from your church is to use a familiar color palette on all of your posts. The colors that you use should all work well together and coordinate with your church’s logo. Because colors are easy to identify, they really help to make your graphics stand out from others. Don’t forget to keep some variety in your posts. (They shouldn’t all be the exact same.) Even including a small snippet of your main colors will accomplish this goal. Having editing capabilities on pre-made graphics is really helpful for this.

3. Use Familiar Design Elements

I love this idea because I feel like it’s one of the ways that you can keep your posts interesting from season to season. For example, there may be some fonts that you use consistently in your church’s graphics. This is probably the main font that is used in your logo. You can always fall back on this font as an easy choice for making a post look like you. However, you may choose to bring in other fonts, textures, and shapes for different seasons. In the Fall, you may choose to add in a rustic handwritten font and leaf textures. Or for Christmas, you might add in a classy serif font and glitter textures. The important thing is to try to use these elements continually for a season so that people begin to identify that these looks are unique to your brand for that time. I recommend only changing these out a max of four times each year. It can also be helpful to have a signature look that you can always fall back on.

4. Add Photos of Your People

While I’m so thankful to have stock photos in my church media tool belt, there are many benefits to using real photos of your congregation. I love giving people a true look at what my church is like before they arrive. It’s also great to show people in your ministry that they are a vital part of your organization. Try swapping out a stock photo with one from your actual services when possible.

5. Include Your Church’s Values

Okay, I admit it. This idea is a bit of going above and beyond, but it has the potential to keep what’s most important to your church’s leadership on the minds of your people. A subtle design element that can add a nice touch is to include your organization’s mission, vision, and values throughout your graphics. While you may be sick of hearing them as someone who is heavily involved, it’s brand new to many of your online audience. Reminding of these principles is huge for building a vision-centered culture.
