One of my favorite places to be is in our church’s tech booth. If you work with video, audio, lighting, or any other kind of church media, you probably feel right at home in your production space, too.
After serving in church media roles for many years, I’ve discovered a few must-have items that make my job easier on Sundays. Having them within arm’s reach is part of what makes our production booth feel like home.
There’s nothing particularly fancy about these tools, but I’d recommend them to anyone working behind the scenes making their church services happen.

Here are 10 items that I believe are essential for a church tech booth:
1. A Power Strip With USB For Powering Your Gear
Having a couple of power strips throughout your booth is important, but having one easily accessible next to your workstation takes it to the next level. I love having the USB options for phones and tablets, too. This power strip is available from Amazon for $20
2. A Flash Drive For Quickly Transferring Files
There are many moments that will call for a quick file transfer from one computer to the next. I like to keep a couple of these in various sizes handy for presentations, videos, etc. This flash drive is available from Amazon for $13
3. Gaff Tape For Nearly Every Situation. Ever.
Gaff tape is a production essential. It’s perfect for securing cables without leaving a sticky residue and is non-reflective so it will go unnoticed to your audience. I also like to keep some bright colors around for when you do want people to take notice. This gaff tape is available from Amazon for $17
4. A Flashlight For Getting The Most Visibility
Having a few flashlights readily available in times when you need to quickly locate a cable or repair malfunctioning equipment can be a lifesaver. This pack of flashlights are available from Amazon for $9
5. Velcro Ties For Keeping Cables Tidy
Velcro strips are one of the most useful tools for keeping cables organized. I highly recommend buying a large pack and using them on every cable in your setup. These cable ties are available from Amazon for $13
6. A Magnetic Reacher For Navigating Tight Spots
Having a magnetic reacher available has saved me many times when working with small screws or parts in our production equipment. I like this particular one because it also has a flashlight built-in that makes it even easier to use. This magnetic pick-up tool is available from Amazon for $7
7. A Label Maker For Staying Organized
Labeling things around your tech booth not only makes things easier for you, but for anyone else that is on your team. Straightforward labels make it simple for even newcomers to learn in your space. This label printer is available from Amazon for $20
8. A Small Tool Set Because Things WILL Break
Having a small, dedicated set of tools for your tech booth makes a big difference in those stressful moments when a repair is needed. No one likes to go on a long search for tools just to make a quick adjustment. This tool set is available from Amazon from $14
9. Rechargeable Batteries For Powering Your Gear
Rechargeable batteries can end up saving your church a lot of money in recurring costs. Whether you’re using them for things like microphones or for powering smaller items like your keyboard, they are super convenient. These batteries are available from Amazon for $11 (Charger sold separately.)
10. A Mobile Stand To Declutter Your Workspace
This stand is perfect for holding a tablet or smartphone while you’re working. I love using it next to my computer to hold my iPad with our Planning Center service schedule on it. This stand is available from Amazon for $9
